whats a good tire then? because these are pretty worn. probably some DH tire that has a stiff sidewall right? should i go for wire or kevlar bead? my experience with kevlar beads in the rear has been pretty bad, but then again those were crap tires.

They are awesome on rocks, I have had good luck with them.

DH tires are no good, heavy and shit. They also fold over pretty easy unless you jack up the pressure, which then defeates the purpose of a DH casing.
Run new el gato's at 40 psi, you will be fine

ok dude, i am sorry please stop giving trials advice I reall find anything trials related you say questionable at best. You need to realize that the times have changed. 40 PSI? Why? When you can run a maxxis or michelin tire at half that, get more bounce out of it, better grip and better pinch flat resistance?

Please dude get a dh casing maxxis of a michelin comp 24.2 or whatever the number is you will be way happier

i suppose? but after seeing more el gato flats than i can count and after nearly a decade of technological advancement in tires I don't see how anyone can suggest using that tire.
