Glad to be here and happy to participate. I'm easy, just write and I'll answer the best I can. We've been here for riding at Plattekill for the last 11 years straight. Long before dual suspension existed. Remember the Pro-Flex bushing style rear shock? We were the test center. Things have changed quite dramatically since then and we would like to think we are changing with the flow of it all. Thanks to all the riders who support Plattekill and off road mountain biking in general. Thanks Jon for encouraging us to get involved with this discussion.

Hey Buddy,
Good to see you on this site.
You have done more for East Coast Mountainbiking than anybody just by the fact that you have been around so long. I have been going to Plattekill for 9 of those 11 years and it has been nothing but good times.
Keep up the good work.
Peace Out...
Thanks JohnnyNitro, I appreciate that and we appreciate all the riders who have supported us and kept us in business all these years.

It'll be a good time. Just took some pics. I'll try to figure out how to submit them here and post them up. Maybe hcor can help me out on this one.

Ya I will get them up tomorrow at some point. Jumps look fun. That wood stuff Tom and crew are working on looks real solid. Nice.

Lazlo,
I have been riding Plattekill a few times a season for the last 7-8 years. I like Plattekill but I do have some questions.
I am not an expert rider (definitely intermediate). I believe a majority of your trails are too difficult for the intermediate rider. (Now I can imaghine all the hate email I'll get saying how much of a pussy I am but we all have to start some where.)
I see DH riding like skiing. There has to be sufficient beginner-Intermediate and advanced trails for the rider to develop thier abilities and to attract people to the sport. I am an advanced level skier and realize why ski resorts cater to intermediates cause that is where the bulk of the market is. However, I do believe Plattekill market is primarily very good riders. Boy am I jealous i would like to ride like you guys. Thoughts? and please keep it clean

hi...i know this post was meant for lazslo but my 2 cents....you may want to revisit the north face again, esp since steve p has been cutting the courses. there are many lines for beginners, intermediates and riders who are ready for the next challenge. besides that, there is plenty to ride now for the mellow rider to the best of the best...new stuff to existing trail... seek and you shall find. have fun.

Thanks! I know they cut new trails just as the new lift went into operation. Are these the same new trails or have there been others added since about 2 seasons ago?
Since they have both lifts running I will check it out.

TONS of new trails. There's actually a trail off the backside of the mountain from the double chair that has become a personal favorite. It's pretty much all play with a few lines that have some super nice drops. All in all, it's very similar to the old school jump trail off the top of the triple.
Most all trails now sport brand new trail names / signs. This is a great improvement.

i feel you should have a couple or a few years bike riding experience, b4 hitting up DH trails. No trail at Plattekill is for a real beginner rider. they have some steep shit there, everywhere! Have XC a BMX backround first, then head to the mtns. You can introduce yourself to ANYONE and any mtn., and i'm sure they will let you ride with them and teach you the ropes. Don't worry how fast other people ride, ride at your own pace. If you ride in a pack, everyone always waits at intersections, til everyone has caught up to the pack. Practice will make you better too. i have been downhilling for three years and it takes a lot of work to get good. Ever since i first started, all my friends hang out a lot in the parking lot, and don't ride that much. I take that opportunity, to keep riding, to better myself so one day i can keep pace with those faster guys.

I think I gave everyone the impression I was beginner. I'm not.
I classify myself as an intermediate. I ride mostly single black diamond trails as the blues are too easy and double blacks are too difficult. i just came back from 3 days at Whistler. I have been riding XC about 9 yrs and DH about 4 yrs. I'm not a total klutz but have to get over the pshycological of steeps and drop offs. Once I can master drop offs I think I wil improve greatly.

you will like the northface very much. it has some of the steeps and dropoffs that you want to practice without being intimidating. ride some of the new trails and courses and your skill set will improve.
