riding your bike off of any large drop isn't normal that's the point I guess . Screw the bike what about his back, I have heard rumors that some pros have back problems due to big drops to flat on hard surfaces.

dropping in proper trials form, which is pedal kicking up to the edge, lowering the front wheel as much as possible before kicking off, then landing back wheel first, is much less abusive on the bike than big bike hucks imo.
from a physics perspective this is valid: the good form both lowers the center of gravity of the bike and rider before the actual drop takes place (this through lowering the front wheel, which forces the rider to lower himself to the back tire to compensate), and lengthens the time over which the impulse is absorbed through the back wheel landing technique. longer time, same impulse (comparing equal height drops) == less force.
edit: cleaned up grammar, syntax, punctuation, etc.

this guy knows exactly what hes talking about, hes totally right. but if you were asking if this was normal for a trails rider to do, no its not. most trials riders dont have the form, balls, or bike enough to do 10ft to flat. ive only seen one guy do it and that was in a video, in other words that guy is above-normal with his riding, he sounds pretty nasty if nothing broke when he did it

i have done like 6 to flat on my full ridge trials bike that has been smoother than like 4 or 5 to flat on my dh bike...its all about the trials form...all rear wheel basically...when you do it right its sweet...when you dont...it hurts

A 10ft is a big drop but most expert and above riders can do it. I am a old trials rider, I have never done anything above 8ft and do not care for stuff over 8ft, if a 1oft drop was in a course I would do it. As for flat landings, they are desireable for trials drops that are over 5ft or so, it gives you a better idea of how to land, since you need to use your bike and physics to take the hit.
p.s. side hopping 7ft drops works well too, just make sure rear wheel hits first
