please dont laugh, I have some questions, I hope you guys help me.
1) How do you get your bike on the chairlift? Do you put it on the hooks yourself, or does someone do it for you??
2) When getting of the chairlift, how can you jump off quickly and grab your bike? It's easy to ski/board away, but on a bike??? Do they stop the lift? I've never been on chairlift w/ bike.
3) Downhill races, do you ride one at a time? or does other racers start like 30secs or 1 min behind you, etc?
4) Does sport & beginner race same course? I never raced, but I'm pretty good on trails and have a good biek for dh, should I race sport?
5) oh yeah, do you only get one run? it's like all or nothing? you vs. clock?
cant find this info... plz help!

1) How do you get your bike on the chairlift? Do you put it on the hooks yourself, or does someone do it for you??
----------------------a lift attendent will place ur ride on the back of everytoher chair.
2) When getting of the chairlift, how can you jump off quickly and grab your bike? It's easy to ski/board away, but on a bike??? Do they stop the lift? I've never been on chairlift w/ bike.
-------------------------u jump off to the side is my fav
3) Downhill races, do you ride one at a time? or does other racers start like 30secs or 1 min behind you, etc?
-------------------------mostly one at a time w/ a certain time in btw riders. soem venues will do a best of 2 run format, or combined times.
4) Does sport & beginner race same course? I never raced, but I'm pretty good on trails and have a good biek for dh, should I race sport?
-------------------------beg/sport have a course and ex/pro have a course. if thier is only one course their will b splits for the classes.
5) oh yeah, do you only get one run? it's like all or nothing? you vs. clock?

varies greatly from race to race, and if theres a drop of more than 2ft there's almost always a way around it (so you dont have to hit it).
usually a little of everything:rock gardens, chutes, drops (up to 4-5ft) w/go arounds, single track, fast ski slopes, roots, steeps, switchbacks, g outs, flat pedal section, rock slabs, off camber (across ski slope), fallen trees........
sounds roughski much much rougher then the open course which had some drops, a couple nasty gardens a lil steepness and that was about it
but that was a great course

OK, I have a couple questions myself since I've never entered a race and I'm thinking about trying it next season.
1. Do you have an assigned race time? How do you know when its your turn?
2. Is there some sort of starting gate?

yes, assigned start time (most places run behind, but you should get up there ealy just in case they are runing early)
and yes there is a starting gate, and someone there to tell you when to go
Do assigned times go by class? or in the order you register, etc?
(trying to convince my gf to race too, but wondering if we could share a bike/helmet and not have it conflict w/ race times?)

The start times are broken up by class. Pro's first, then experts, sport and beginner. Each class (except pro) is then broken into age groups, then in order of registration. I have yet to see a Plattekill race run on schedule.
I'm not so sure sharing your bike w/ your girlfriend is a good idea at your first race. You both need to practice on that bike either the day before(ideal) or the morning before the race. Plattekill is not the sort of place where you can just show up and race. That is, if you plan to walk away from the mountain under your own power. Best to go to a race and take it all in and see how things run. You'll probably need to go a few times to get a routine down and start to develop race strategies.
