Me and Marc Goguen got talkin today while diggin (many good conversations had there...) and we started basically talking about how much this sport sucks dick. Whats up with the MX? Its just sad. They need to build some REAL courses for a change. On the mt snow course u could roll every single one of those jumps, and they were built like total shit. Why is it that guys on 20" bikes with one gear and no susupension are rippin up 40ft 6packs 10 people at a time? Thats just downright embarrassing. Why cant 8 people just be slapped on a course? Alot of people say its because our bikes are too big to be racing that close. 20 people rip up SX courses on 250lb bikes being merley inches away from each other! And if people are in fear of the sport becoming too 'bmxish' then be more creative with course design, why not throw in a woods section with natural trail? Theres such incredible potential with these ol 26" bikes. It needs to be USED.
I was gonna type more on the whole DH and resort issue but ill prolly get bitched out anyways. Whats all ur oppinions on this? I pretty much just think most of the mtb world needs to get off their asses and take this sport where it can go. Most of the problem lies within the racing organizations and resorts for not building real stuff to ride. No reason riders cant take more charge as in other sports like skating and bmx.
Its so easy to picture mtb being just as popular as bmx or snowboarding in 7 years and people goin OFF left and right. But at the same time, its just as easy to picture it in the SAME EXACT spot it is now. (*end rant and duck for beating*)
MTBing = 20 years old AT MOST - probably closer to 15. BMXing = way way way more than that. Same for snowsports.
Natural progression/evolution will dictate. I, for one, disagreed with the decision to drop DS in favor of MTX, but the MTX is still in its first year (a lot of ppl forget that), so give it a couple more and it will be, well, hardcore.
Dual slalom was pretty *ugh* when it first started IMO, then it got better.
Everything will catch up. And if it turns out racing doesn't push the sport, then people like those that post on this (these) boards will push it. I'm sick and tired of hearing about PROGRESSION or the lack thereof. If it's going to progress, it sure as hell aint gonna happen if you (we) sit in front of the computer all day bitching about it.
Go ride the bicycle.

Yea, no harm done in bein on a bulliten board though. I was out digging for 5 hours today. Thats my fair share for the sport for today
And its not just so much mx, its DH and mountain biking all together. I dont feel like gettin into it now.

Yeah, I'm disappointed with the progression, but...

It wasn't progression. It was a train wreck.
Actually, looked good from this end (the end that has the computer chair, refrigerator, stereo, et cetera.

imo last years was a better course besides the lack of passing and the lack of anything near the finish line.

HAHAHA ya that is what it looked like. For DHing, part of the problem is that many of the good riding places are a) not lift/shuttle accessable, b) Racing isn't allowed by the landowners or c) isn't a good place for a race (for isntance, a little too much climbing). The other big problem is the orginization..... Spending 12 minutes max on actual runs in 5 hours of practice at Sea Otter isn't cool. Or standing in line for 40 minutes only to be told that the shuttle that i missed by 5 people in line was the last one....and they didn't give us a warning so we could walk to the top. The idea of paying at least 35 bucks to spend the whole day at a race for a few runs when I could go to a local DH spot and ride all day (with no lines) for next to nothing is not cool. Don't get me wrong, racing is fun and I race whenever I can, but sometimes I wonder if it is worth it, but then I remember why..... racing can't progress if no one shows up!
bazfaz: NO YOU CANT YOU FUCKEN ASSHOLE
bazfaz: yeah thats right you suck
bazfaz: dont f**king get that shit wrong
bboyag: ok i;ll remember
bazfaz: f**k i thin i drank a lot of that handle

EXACTLY. and it totally was. that was fuckin ripped.
BUT (i think i should patent that ), look at how many people bitch about that section. Just learn to ride it, if u cant do it then dont be racing that class, plain and simple. Every place needs a yardsale
minichase - w/ all yr bitching, i have 3 questions -
how many mtn-x courses have you ridden?
how many DH runs have you ridden?
how many races have you volunteered to do work?

Considering im 16... its super hard to get places. Ive been able to do one dh race and one ds race. So, ive never ridden a true mx course. BUt i dont see how its 'too' different riding an mx course versus training through a line at the dirtjumps a foot away from a rider in front and in back.
Ive built some DH courses, dont have a DH bike though so doesnt do a ton of good. Hopefully next spring i will and ill be out in the woods diggin like crazy to get a big ass 6pack runnin and a sweet drop into a road gap i have speced out.
And i cant even think of trying to volunteer to help out of a race when i have to practically lose an arm and a leg just to get to one.
Me and Marc Goguen got talkin today while diggin (many good conversations had there...) and we started basically talking about how much this sport sucks dick. Whats up with the MX? Its just sad. f**k YOU CAN DRIBBLE SOME.........
If the sport sux dick, either go get a BMX or join a race commitee and do something about it. You can bitch all you like for everyone else to change the sport but thats all you do.....bitch about it. Are you even a member of a club or are you too "core" for a club. That would be a good way to start atleast. Jion a club and put your ideas forward to the board/race commitee and see what their opinions are.
Also keep in mind there is more to biking than just jumping and not everyone has 2000hours jumping practise up their sleave at the age of 16. This sport is for EVERYONE, not just people that can hit all the jumps that you think are cool enough. f**k, how do we progress if all the jumps on a track are too big for 95% of people to hit but because Mini can clear them everyone else should be able to aswell. Fact is alot of people can't and they shouldn't be left out of the sport just because someone else is better and wants to be continuosly challeged by huge gaps.
Your very narrow minded Mini, maybe you should think about that.
No trying to be an ass, this is just my honest opinion.

I, also, would value the rant and opinion just a teensy bit more if little mini had ever raced a mountain-x course.
