USA CYCLING ATHLETE NOMINATION INFORMATION
UCI MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - GRAVITY
June 16-22, 2008
Val di Sole, Italy
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
USAC will be assuming financial responsibility for riders in the teams listed, IF THE RIDERS MEET THE AUTOMATIC QUALIFICATION STANDARDS BELOW. USAC is limited in the number of riders we will fund, indicated by the maximum number in parentheses. USAC may also fund those athletes who are chosen via coaches’ discretionary selection. Information regarding USAC discretionary selection procedures can be found in the “General Team Selection Information” document on the USAC website. All riders should review this document as well as “USAC Process for selecting riders to protected events”. Both of these documents outline responsibilities and requirements for team selection. Please note that USAC will NOT fill the teams to the maximum number of riders if it deems petitioning riders are not medal capable or future medal capable.
1. *Junior Men Downhill (Maximum of 2)
*Note: Junior athletes that meet the criteria for automatic selection will be required to pay a 50% deposit of the total estimated cost of the event. Any junior athlete that achieves a top three (3) finish at the 2007 MTB World Championships in the event in which they were selected will be refunded their deposit in full. Athletes that were selected via discretion will be required to pay the full deposit.
Junior Downhill (male and female)
Eligible Participants: USAC International License Holders; Age 17 and 18
Maximum Start Positions: 7
Athletes will receive automatic nominations to the team based on the following prioritized criteria:
1. Any athlete placing in the top three (3) at the 2007 World Championships in the same event and category. In order to maintain their position on the Team, the eligible athlete(s) must continue to
demonstrate the ability to finish in the top 3 at the World Championships during the current racing season. This evaluation will be based on results from major international competition and current ranking on the appropriate UCI Individual Classification.
2. The winner of the Junior Expert Plattekill Series #1 Downhill race. This event is currently scheduled for May 2-3, 2008 in Roxbury, NY.
3. The winner of the Junior Expert Chile Challenge/Mountain States Cup # 3 Downhill - USACMTB National Gravity Calendar race. This event is currently scheduled for May 23-26, 2008 in Angel Fire, NM.
a little home field advantage, eh.
Seriously it is great USAC gave the Juniors a World Team qualifying race on the East Coast, I think it might be a first BUT the pros still must travel Perhaps some lobbying with the right people at USAC to include this race as a qualifier for pros would help. Might be to late tho.

If You win this JrX race You'll be on the USAC Worlds Team and USAC will pick up 1/2 of the expenses, Podium at the worlds and they'll pick up the whole tab.

I was wondering the same thing, but in your case, Worlds would be a very big deal.

Don't be an idiot. If you qualify for worlds you're crazy not to go- that's how you change your life for the better in so many ways.
You should try your best b/c there are probably only 2 or 3 other juniors, including Miko, that could beat you on an average day.

What do you think? Does the fact that this race is the qualifier for worlds make it likely that people will travel in from other areas?

I didn't ride at all last year and have not been to Platty in a long time. Gonna dust the old bike off and head to the mountain to cheer the young rippers on!

Are you nuts?
If you qualified for worlds & didn't go because you 'couldn't get off work' I would slap you, I swear, lol
That's a once in a lifetime experience for alot of people.
