I've done it to see what its like when at the DJ's. It is nice because you can pull the bike up with your feet, but not worth the inconveniance.

For park...no

or trail/FR - clips are fine - nice even. If you are DJing or sessioning stunts switch back to your flats!

Park / DJ / Street - NO CLIPLESS

Ride flats, you'll become a better rider for it all around and in the long run.

Case in point: I find myself 'bunnyhopping' my motocross bike in certain situations on the track. Lifting the rear of the bike up the same way you do on a bicycle with flat pedals.

flats for dj/street
it always good to be able to throw the bike away when things go wrong, and they usually do at some point.

Flats all the way....I use to ride clip ins doin DJ's and stairgaps. It can certainly be done but wont help
your skills. Depending on the clipins to yank the bike up is no good.

There were so many times where i didnt lift directly upward and my foot would un clip...If you tighten it so they never un clip when you lift, then you have allot of trouble trin to bail when ya need to.

There's nothing worse then nose casing a jump and havin your bike attached to you....

Flats will teach you how to keep the pedals to your feet by throttling the bars forward. Keep your feet llight once in the air and let the throttling level you off....there's more to it tho...get a pair and set up a bunnyhop bar. Get some basics down....

Just a thought...

If you have proper technique, clips are definitely better than flats in alot of ways - the benefit of flats is bailabiliity. To build and maintain proper technique, riding flats is a good idea (even for those silly XC over sprung shock having, spandex goons!)

EGADS - it is entirely possible to have good technique in clips; these are not mutually exclusive concepts.

But as said - not the best solution for park/DJ/stunts -- unless you are really advanced or not pushing limits; but still adds to the ramifications of certain tyes of 'error'. But being that we are in the urban/park/dj forum - I would say the dafault is NO to clips, stick with flats.

Clipless for Street/Park/DJ = Death

Odyssey JC Pedals are good stuff.

Although I concede flats are better option for park, aside from crashing (which you are not supposed to do!!!!!!!) why not clips (another aside, except for no - no foot tricks, or foor plants etc.. lol)

you could probably create some pretty tarded tricks! like clip intoa 16" and have the bike do a flip between your legs n stuff......

Twisted Evil

Don't forget the shin guards! No clips can = slips.

I got +1,700 miles on flat pedals this year.
