The grade of the hill, the quality of the dirt, and the amount of maintnece needed make the course very UNSAFE for anyone trying to actually race on something that resembles a mtx bike (under 4" of travel). The amount of vertical feet covered in a very short amount of time makes the course way to sketchy for these kind of bikes.

Can you explain to me how you think the grade of the hill dictates what type of bike you need.
One of the things we are trying to do is make the 4x course rideable on any type of bike (withen reason of course) and I think to a degree we have acomplished this (yeah, I need to rake the loose stone from top of the course). I use an x-c bike and don't have any problems, but I'm old and slow.
What needs to be done and why??

Take a look at 2006 UCI World Championship course (click the image), it looks closer to what we have at Plattekill than a downhill BMX course.

The Rotura Course is significantly different.
It is not anywhere near as steep, the corners are properly radiused, the straights are longer, the jumps aren't too short, and it is much more groomed.
