Are you like 17 or something? First you say he doesn't pay YOU enough to race (when you finished third). Then it's not worth going there, but he gave you free lift tickets? Then you say you don't have enough MONEY as the rest of us and then contradict yourself by talking about your trip out west (for how long?).
I'll be back next year with another season pass and I won't have any fleece on MY back Bahhhhh! Bahhhh!
I dont normally venture into this forum, but i felt this particular thread needed some balance.
The woods are full of faeries!
The trees are all alive;
The river overflows with them,
See how they dip and dive!
What funny little fellows!
What dainty little dears!
They dance and leap,
and prance and peep,
And utter fairy cheers!

Its obvious that has had a decline in amount of riders over the past couple of years, butPlattekill needs to do something in order to draw the riders back, cutting back on what racers recieve is not going to make more people go. I think its safe to assume that anybody saying that platty can keep the prize money is not actually winning any prize money.

I don't see the prize money Platty is offering as the essence of the problem. You're always going to have a core group of riders (99.9%) who race for the simple reason that they love being on their bike competing against themselves and their friends. I'm pretty sure Dom falls into this category as well. His comment no doubt has been taken the wrong way.
Platty has seen a decline in the attendance but that's MAINLY because of more choice. Which ultimately will benefit all mountains. Meanwhile, Platty could do some things to attract more riders, like building (and or maintaining) more beginner type trails. I've personally taken friends of mine there only to see them walk their bike half way down the mountain and call it a day. I've also taken the SAME friend(s) to Creek and they've had a good time. This isn't to say that Creek doesn't have challenging terrain, only more "inbetween" terrain for all levels of ability.
Regardless, Platty will always have to wrestle with their location. Summer or Winter, it's always a challenge to get people to drive to the middle of nowhere. I know many share my LOVE for that emptiness and the lack of rules that come with it…but it's an extra expense. But in my opinion, you get what you pay for.

At least someone seems to understand a little bit. This wasnt meant to be a war. I was stating some information about my small gripe. There are things that could be done to attract more riders. I know a lot of riders always talk about the races with the better prizes. I also think its weird that 99% of the industry does NOT advertise their pro payout. It seems like most of them are embarrased by it or something. I think a change could definatly happen. From my past in motocross, racers tend to flock to the races advertising 100% pro payback or a guaranteed minimum. Im not saying this is the answer for plattekill or any other mountain and i am also not saying that moto and DH are the same. Im just trying to show that their are options and some things could definatly be done to improve the situation.

Yo springfish is right about platty. The only reason I go there is for the races once a month.I tried to go freeriding and it's kind of hard to ride trails you can't even find or they are grown in.The payout does suck but what can you do when there attendance is down because of the other mountains you can go ride that are closer.Congrats Dom and George.

I kinda dissagre. Only a small % of riders see the podium. This is my first year racing and I am in xpert. I will most likely not see podium anytime soon. But I still hit everyrace. Not for the prizemoney, but just for fun.

As Shawn and his sheep,
should work on mnt creek!
See how they dip and dive!
What fun is it now,
without velcro gloves,
While the sheep graze through the woods?
Only the sheppard knows
as he grabs them by their toes
and shows them how to use his wood.
No trail matenance or new trails,
in the last 3 months or so.
But yet they graze the forums instead,
and hear the sheep as they groan?
"The sheep cannot tell"
Shawn says to himself,
knowing they cannot speak.
What Shawn doesn't know,
is what we all KNOW
That's the SHIT SURE JUST GOT DEEP!
And utter sheppard cheers!
Damn, bud! You might want to goto therapy for that shit. I know you love farm animals and things, but to write about it in a forum? Now I know why you put that "twisted" emoticon thing in your response. Alright! That's enough.
Dom
Jets are cool too. What type are you looking into? With the cost of gas, I'd hate to see the cost of fuel at the airport. But yea, flying out west would be cool. Imagine all the cool arial pics you can take. The only problem would be how to get rid of the glare of the double pane window. Does anyone know how you can get rid of that? ttyl, Aceman

I'm sorry for upsetting you. Lets make up. Dom...You're the MAN! and I shouldn't pick on you or your buddies. Or anyone for that matter. I hope you forgive me? We're all DH'ers and ride for fun. Right? I just wanted to add to the fire...and it worked. And as Bobby McFerrin once said, "Don't worry, be happy!" Aceman
