So I was pretty psyched to get 3rd place in pro this last weekend. I was even more psyched when I found out they cut the prize money again.. 50 American Dollars, think it covered some of my gas and arbys on the way home

I'd think the Arby's would cover the gas on the way home.
winning ex 24-29 netted me a paltry $50, but I ate bagels all weekend and my Grom payed for my entry and gas, so I still came out on top.
At least there IS cash, this was my first Plattekill race and I half expected to get a neoprene fanny pack stuffed with tubes. Considering the low racer turnout It seems to me that cutting the prize list was more than acceptable. I never saw an offical flier listing how the payouts were structured, so it's their perogative to handle things however they see fit.

I never said anything about Pkill mentioning more money. In the past they have paid more money to pros and experts. Granted in most other fields no one except for pros get paid. Many other sports offer 100% payback or more for pros. This past weekend pkill only actually paid back 30% of the pros entry fees. I know that they dont claim to offer more, but i think advertising good prizes is one of the things that helps draw riders from other parts of the east coast.

I don't know if advertising draws too many more riders from the East Coast. Definitely from the West Coast and further, the US Open is a perfect example of that. The East only has a limited amount of races that are "regulars" so I think MOST riders know of them and either choose to attend (aka race) or not. Prizes for these regular races I feel matter very little to the average racer.
While I think it would be great if prizes were better, the fact remains, it's still a day on your bike rippin' it up with your bros. And while we all are feeling the grip of higher gas prices, just imagine how these mom & pop ski areas are being effected. If you disregard all the service vehicles, mowing, etc., and only concentrate on the fuel being burned to run the pumps and compressors to make snow the numbers would make you sick.
And good job on the podium. I still remember you rippin' it up at Spring Mountain years ago…which in my opinion is still pound for pound one of the most technical mountains I've ever ridden.

congrats to george and dom...
.. Ever since my 2nd place in expert at the start of the season where I walked away with some stickers, a gatorade bottle, and a spy buck. I havent been too stoked on going back... I love riding/racing plattekill, but we ride hard to have fun and do the best that we can on our bikes... I'm not saying I needed to have cash considering I am still an amatuer, but perhaps a small product from one of the many sponsor companies that plattekill has would have suited me just fine..
