there would be no "automatic qualifier" But there's still a total of 7 spots on the team for the juniors, there is one other automatic qualifier at Angle Fire. They rarely fill all 7 spots.

No, geoff screwed it up last year when he won the qualifier at Sugar Mountain He was 16 at the time and some people were pissed (mainly the second place finisher.

Wouldn't make more sense for Plattekill to Split the Junior X group into to 2 age groups for this race.

I mean USCF does it at Nationals

It would really stink to have all this work done to make this a qualifier then have a 16 year old win it and then Plattekill sends no one to Worlds

17 or 18 must win to qualify. That's it. If a 16 year old wins then an older rider dosen't deserve the 1/2 free travel, etc. And the 16 year old just about guarantee's themselves a spot on the team the following year. Of course the 17-18 year old rider who finishes second to a 16 year old would be a little pissed Wink

Remember besides the two automatics there are 5 discretionary choices. I'm pretty sure there will be less taken. This race is a chance for someone who isn't on USAC's radar to make the team or for someone who is to help pay expenses. Riders that deserve to be on the team will be on the team regardless if they race this one or finish poorly. Hopefully a few racers will venture from out west. Right now there is probably 10 riders that usac is looking at and a strong finish here by someone on the bubble would solidify their position. While a poor finish would not hurt a rider with strong recent results. So it's a positive situation for all.

Man I would love to make it up to this. Never been to Platty before but this sounds like a golden opppurtunity, definately stiff competition with Ulmer.

Geoff Ulmer will not be racing the automatic qualifier. But I hear some fast west coast riders will be. Get your game on boys.

Props to Geoff for making the ironhorse team, but doesn't he loose his amateur status now??? Can't beleive I was almost keeping up with him 2 years ago , now he's a pro blowing my doors off. All those runs with Doc must have helped Laughing

I was thinking, Geoff probably automatically makes it to worlds, so why would he want to win and take the opportunity from another rider, probably east coast or even fellow NY rider?

The kid sounds cool and fast.

Geoff is really excited and appreciates all the comments. Now He just wants the snow to go away so He can start riding. He wrote this for his website ( geoffulmer.com ) today. It's gonna be a little strange for the two of us this year.

In 2008 I’ll be racing for Playbiker-Ironhorse, an Italian UCI registered trade team. This is a huge step up and I will try my best to take advantage of this opportunity. I realize Playbiker and Ironhorse are taking a risk supporting a junior at this level, so I do feel some pressure to perform but either way I do have another year at the junior level to use the experience from this year.

I’ve been training hard this winter and leave for Italy, April 26th. After a Bike Fest at Lake Garda, where I’ll be representing Kenda tires, my race season will start with a “test” race on the world championship course in Val-di-Sole, Italy. I’ll also be able to hit the first two rounds of the Italian National Circuit, the first three rounds of the World Cup, in Malibor, Vallnord and Fort William. After that I hope to be chosen to represent the United States at the World Championships in Italy. Since I won’t be able to race at either automatic qualifier to the USAC World’s team, I hope my international results are good enough to be chosen at large. I realize this is a gamble however I cannot afford to be traveling back and forth to Europe. I’ll be arriving home the first week in July, racing at Plattekill, the NMBS at Windham Mountain and the National Championships at Mount Snow before heading up to Canada for the World Cups in Mte. St. Anne and Bromont.

After that if my results and standings in the World Cups are good, I’ll go to Australia and Austria. If not I’ll stay home and finish the season with Plattekill, Mount Snow and Gravity East races.

While in Italy, I’ll be staying and training with the Playbiker-Ironhorse team. We will be riding every day on some of the best trails anywhere. I think my years of riding at Plattekill Mountain are going to be paying off

Special thanks to Todd Seplevy and Playbiker-Ironhorse's sponsors which of course include of course Iron Horse Bicycles, e.thirteen components, Formula brakes, Kenda, Funn and RMS Component Selection, A-Class Wheels, Alex Rims, SRAM, Rock Shox, UFO Plast and Insight Productions.

Finally I’d like to thank all who have helped me in my racing career, past sponsors who took a chance on a 14 year old include Azonic, 661, ODI, Magura, SDG, Sun-Ringle, Maxxis, Hopey and especially ROTEC Cycles. I will have a couple of personal sponsors, who will be named soon in addition to the ones from The Playbiker-Ironhorse Team.

Geoff
