racoon rally is a big mtn. bike festival that takes place the last weekend in june (friday-sunday), and has been for god knows how many years (i've been going since like '96). it has a 4x DH comp, trials comp, XC race, and now even a road race (don't ask, i don't know why ) it's held in allegany state park in new york, south of buffalo, on the PA state line. it's good times all around!

ok, so i went there, and shaun miller was there. yeah, he's fricking sick! he warmed up by jumping up onto random 8' tall rocks... that's just not right... other than that, they made the courses in all classes tougher, didn't do so well with that. oh well, good experience, and there's always next year!

Glad to hear that you had fun doing trials there.
NEPS should have a comp there even if WNYMBA/heartrateup.com don't do the event again.
It is not in the middle of nowhere you guys just didn't look hard enough, look me up if ther eis another, I will show you a good time.
BTW S. Miller is a Dick

just saw this old post and it reminded me of the event which was fun. Expert stock sections were weird, some really easy, some way too hard. I was finishing one section in under a minute and then not getting 3 moves deep into the next.
Shaun Miller never upped an 8 foot rock. I was taller than the big rock he jap slapped as a warmup, still huge, but 8 feet? The Coustlieres dont do 8 ft.

ok, maybe i overestimated the size of the rock... i saw him do a couple different ones, and i just know they were big. and my side comment, the beg. and sport courses were harder than normal. i 5-ed every single section on sport, whereas last year, aside from stupid mistakes on 2 or 3, i cleaned every single one. my friend did beg, and it looked like last year's sport course. and i've been going there since '95 or '96, so i've got a fair idea of how they've been over the years... anyone else notice this?

The beg. courses should look like sport courses of years past. If they dont then whats the point? Trials contests need to evolve like that or it sucks. 6 foot gaps use to be huge. Now you cant even be a crappy expert rider if you cant pedal kick 6 feet...

True that, I rode expert stock up there a few years back...the year it rained like hell for the entire comp!! Remember that one? Holy crap did that make the sections fun!! By far some of the best natural riding anywhere!! I also agree with the whole courses getting harder thing, I rode sport for a few years and it seemed like I'd never move up because as soon as I could clean the sport courses, the following year the sections would be last years expert sections...nutty...
