I know it's always a rider preference thing, but in general, for street and park riding on MTBs, is it better to go with a short stem (0-75mm) or a longer stem (75-110mm)? Here's how I see it:
Shorter stems are for moving weight back on the bike for descents and cornering at speed.
Longer stems are for moving weight over the front for balance during tech stuff and low-speed riding.
So wouldn't that make a longer stem ideal for all the street poo?
Do respond.

I think it depends on the top tube length and rider style. Maybe it's a common thought that shorter stems are stronger so most people use a short stem for harder riding...dj, street, dh. Don't really know, except that I like a shorter than 80mm stem on my 250 and AC2

Short stem + steep head angle = good steering feel with good balance.

Why dont you just get a 75 mm that way you can have the best of both worlds?
Honestly, I dont really know, but I think you are right, ideally you would want a longer stem, however, like you said, it all comes down to preference. Perhaps you should try to find a friend who already has a longer stem on there, try it, then find someone with a short stem on theirs...

Well I have a 75mm stem right now and I like it very much.
It's more of a question about where the line is drawn between MTB man-made trials and MTB street. Are they the same? Little different? A lot different? It seems to me that trials and street are very closely intertwined, with a lot of moves involving the rear wheel, balance, manuals, hops, drops, etc. Trials obviously gains balance from having a longer stem, and at this point stem length doesn't necessarily compromise strength (proven by Thomson for real-world situations), so what is it?
I suppose there speeds are higher in street than in trials... doing grinds, gaps, etc... but that shouldn't kill the thought...
Is it purely fashion?

for my ac, i use a 25 mm stem, for the balfa i use a 85 mm stem, i personally like the a longer stem on the hard tail, makes for easier park riding, i think. I think it is more of a personal preference type question

For trial you'd be better off with a longer stem, but for street (and also fr/dh, in my case) go 50mm or below.

I understand that, and subscribe to that philosophy right now, even. I guess what I'm trying to ask (or trying to get others to speculate on) is: why? Why not use a longer stem for street? Some brought up the better handling at speed, but I see more and more street/park riding (BMX and MTB) going to lower-speed stuff...

Sharp turning with slow speed,.. sucks with a long stem. It's hard to balance properly. I also feel more secure and stable with my weight placed more center over the bike, and not too far out on the front.
definatly go under 60 for street riding. for street, a short stem is going to put you further forward over your fork, which you dont want for gaps and bunny hops.....IMHO...
