The shop I work at is moving to a new location soon, and at this location there's a wooded lot that's prime for building dirt jumps. I already have permission from the owner, and all we're waiting on is for the legal work to go through. We should be able to start digging middle to the end of next week. If anyone is interested in lending a hand just post something or shoot me a pm. I'll post an update next week when I get the final go ahead to dig.
Garrett - that's awesome news. I wish I could help you guys but for me to get out to New Hope would be a bit tough. starting out fresh with a clean bill to dig is sooo f'in sweet!!
How does the woods look for the new spot? Any chance getting a Bobcat in there - it might make things alot easier to get started.
Let me know if you have any questions or want building tips. I think we've covered almost all of them at our trails

yeah i can't wait. It'll be so nice to have some riding thats less than 5min from my house. The woods look really good. There aren't too many trees, so there's plenty of open space to build jumps. Plus the good thing about this place is we'll never have to worry about getting them dosed since they're not on someone else's property!!
There's plenty of room to get a bobcat back there, but I don't really know anyone that has a bobcat. I guess we could rent one. That sure would make it a lot easier.
Yeah some building tips would be great. I don't really have much experience building jumps so any info would be good. There are guys at the shop that ride bmx though so I'm sure they'll know what to do.
thats sick, half of gettin trails started is findin a good spot that u know they will be safe in. But, before u go gettin all excited (dunno if u already have done this), go around where u gonna build and dig some random holes at different spots to see how the dirt is. U may have what looks like a sweet setup but the dirt wont work at all.
Ive found that often times, the harder the dirt is to dig the better the jumps are in the end. In our case, the dirt is very loose (not sandy though), and it makes it really hard to pack, but when it eventually DOES get packed, its totally rock hard because theres no impurities in there, and its literally like pavement.
If its a darker/redder type the jumps will shape nicley and pack sooner, but they will take longer to eventually get to that concreteness.
Ull find it out with time. Just dig ALOT and it all works out. Ive found i can hit jumps that ive built MUCH easier than riding someone elses because u know every little contrast within the jump, that means if ur diggin ull be gettin alot better too!
make sure you plan a layout BEFORE you start digging... otherwise you going to end up with a bunch of jumps with no flow and you'll have to go back and start over...

yup, best advice. It will help to just look at the place for a while and just imagine where you want lines to go.
First thing to do is start from the highest point (if there is one) and work down. Good trails don't require any pedaling after the first set.
Also, make note where any trees or obstacles are. Besides a tree being in the way of a run, if you need to put a lip near one the digging could be very tough. Usually only for big trees though.
Try to incorporate any natural obstacles. i.e. - if there's a large rock - see if you can run a lip off of it. Or send a line inbetween trees.
I would start with a smaller line just to get something running. That way you can dig then ride. It will make it more fun.
o yea, keep the place on the down low as much as possible. don't want grommets coming and wreaking the place

cool...if you need a hand too at this new place just let me know
yeah don i know what you mean, we don't need a bunch of little kids finding out about the jumps. last thing we need is a bunch of kids trying to ride them and either getting hurt or trashing the trails. its going to be like a shop employee and friends only thing.
