ok, now i have been trying to practice this but hvent got too far with it i have my good foot forward and ill drop the front wheel down, that fine, i got that part.. but what im getting stuck on is this, do you actually pedal? like 1/2 rotation or something? or just push down on the pedal while holding the brake? do you pedal while hopping? i dontknow, i get confused after the first step or two.... pointers?

i think you have to release the brake while pushing, then clamp it back down when you land
but i cant even hop on the rear wheel, so my opinion is worth -$.02

You do have to pedal a little. I think pedal rotation should be much less than half esp. when learning the move maybe even less then a 1/4 depending on engagment of your hub. I would learn to kick to your rear wheel instead of getting on the rear than trying to pedal kick. With both wheels on the ground kick the pedals to bring up the front wheel, when the handle bars are 1/2 to your waist pop up with your legs to get the rear wheel in the air and pull the hadle bars quickly in nearer your waist, LOCK OUT your rear brake before the rear wheel hits the ground or you will end up on your ass. After you can do one string two together than three..... You have to do five things at once in good timing, I picked up the basics in a few weeks and I'm not that great, fully matered the move in a month or so.

I'd say if you're comfortable enough to be up on your rear tire, and dropping the front tire, you're pretty close. I drop the front tire a bit, and in one quick motion I release the rear break, give a quick 1/4 pedal stroke ("kick"), lunge your body up and forward a bit to complement the pedal stroke, lock your rear brake again as soon as you leave the ground, and land with your weight back far enough to prevent you from dropping the front wheel to the ground when you land... Thats the best way I can describe it.. and its best to learn on flat grass and just try to string together a bunch of pedal kicks. Good luck man!

everything helps! and thanks for the suggestions, ill have to wait till it stops raining to get out and try this again, so kinda lightly release the brakes as i give a tiny bit of power to the pedal and hop all at once?
ghostrider: good idea about the 2 tires first, that might help me out in getting the hang of the motions, i think im concentrating to hard on just staying on my rear tire and cant really put it all together just yet!
thanks guys keep this shiz coming, every little tip helps

when you are learning, you shouldn't totally release the back brake.. just modulate just enough so when you kick the rim can move forward just a little... when learning, you shouldn't kick much al all... try like only going 20deg or so (maybe a little more..)

i think the key to it is practice practice practice. there is no other way to get good at them. One of my friends learned them well in a matter of days and I am currently going on a matter of years. I guess its just a slow learning curve

i echo heikki's remarks. it took me a while to get comfortable w/ the time of all the moves you had to link together. i could hop on the rear wheel pretty well, but getting the synchronization of releasing the brake, pedaling kicking/moving yr center of gravity, and then setting up for hte landing and re-lockign the brake took a while.
the suggestion of learning to kick to yr rear wheel is an excellent one, as it pretty much mirrors the basic move.
good luck! it's sunny out in MA today, so you have good practice conditions.

oh... another thing... don't really worry about letting your front wheel drop... you only need to do that if your trying to get some distance... when your first learning, don't even think about that... just go for very small movements..

Go to www.trials-online.com and dl the quicktime videos. QTime is good for picking apart the videos to see the moves well, arrow keys let you view the movie one frame at a time great for studying.
