my DMR hardtail (actually, full rigid) is done. took it for a spin tonight at the local BMX hole (it really is a hole, it's a series of gravel paths with 2 or 3 mounds of dirt on it). strangely enough, i felt comfortable right away with the setup...... this is a first, i've never gotten on a new bike before and had it feel "just right". must be a good sign.
specs are as follows:
- DMR Trailstar frame
- DMR Sidekick fork
- Atomlabs Aircorp (rear) and Trailpimp (front) rims, both 24"
- Deore hubs
- Truvativ Hussefelt cranks w/Blackspire 36t ring (want a 38t or 40t ring eventually)
- Aireal chainguide
- XT derailleur, Deore shifter
- Sachs chain
- Avid levers
- rear v-brake (hayes mech front soon to come, Avids hopefully soon)
- Koski bar
- Profile grips
- Da Bomb somethin stem
- no-name saddle
- Tioga 24x2.3 tyres
- wellgo pedals
- DiaCrap headset

i think that's pretty much it..... it has a fairly steep HA, i'm guessing 70-71deg. it turns like lightning, the back end is short and swift to move, the tyres are currently at 60psi (OW!!), and everything is good. the geometry is spot-on, all i gotta do now is get the disc adaptor for the front brake, get a QR seatpost clamp, and let the tyres down to something more compliant. i'm very happy!

i will get some pics as soon as i can, that might be a few weeks tho Crying or Very sad

strangely enough, a lot of the stuff is absolute shit. all the bars/stem/seat/headset/etc are crappy no-name stuff. on the positive side, it was relatively cheap.

$400 frame (usually $695, damn that was a good price!)
$150 forks
$440 wheels
$400 for cranks, bb, chain, derailleur + shifter
$210 chainguide
$80 tyres
$45 headset
$50 levers
$40 cables (fuggin expensive to get good ones)
$20 for bars n grips
$30 tubes
$10 so far for brakes.... more to come

$1875AUD so far...... that's well under $1000US.

Just because it's not $$$ brand name stuff, doesn't mean it's shit.

A lot of the stuff I like the most would be classified as "shit" by most people.

the frame is dark blue with lighter blue decals, the fork is a dull silver.

the tiogas seem pretty grippy, not Michelin good, but not bad at all.

yeah it took a while hey! took it riding today, it's fuckin sweet! strange to jump, but i'm more used to it now, it really rips. verging on TOO fast through the rhythms, which is a change from the duallie. put the Aireal bashguard to the test, 50/50ing a double. seems to hold up ok!
be sick to go for a ride. this mate of yours is actually in jail, or is that slang for some place? i'd love to show you Narbethong, Kinglake and Granton. the "racetrack" at narby got demolished cos it goes through a logging coup, but the "north shore" style run is still there. Kinglake is STEEP, and very tricky in some sections. Granton is an easy course, but it's fast and fun.

ah..... you're right, but it IS shit stuff. the seat is a POS, the grips are about as soft as diamond, the bars have a bit of flex in em (not too much mind), the headset is a cheapo POS, and the back brake is an SIS V-brake... however, most of the stuff IS quality kit, most importantly the frame, wheels, fork, cranks (sorta....Hussefelts are ok, but not really indestructible) and chainguide. i love the wheels the most, 24" AtomLabs....mmmmm beef.

however, i got an Avid front disc today (for only $180AU!), and to say i'm impressed is an understatement. they're not even fully bedded in, and they kick arse! the best thing is that i installed and set em up drag free in less than 10 mins..... the CPS dials are the best thing ever! not far off the power of my Hayes either, the only downside is the lever feel isn't that great. not real bad, but not very good either.

becasuse of the full rigid ride quality, you might want to get something on the lines of profiles, oviously when you get more money, but profiles make the biggest difference you could ever ask for.

Drug trafficing. At the time it was Melbournes biggest ever ecstacy bust. 1/4 of a million pills or something dumb like that. Sad

fark..... he wasn't the ringleader, was he? that's a hell of a lot of crack/smack/whack/dope/drugs to be hauling....

anyway, took the DMR riding aaaaaall day today Very Happy
i have found:
- avid mechs are awesome
- cable housing NEEDS those metal end caps (i found this out the hard way Smile $20 of housing down the tube)
- Tioga Factory DH tyres have very very weak sidewalls. damn, i pinchflatted on a BUNNYHOP up a trio of stairs, at about 10km/h, with DH tubes (for 2.5" tyres, i was using 2.3" tyres), and 40-50psi..... that's just wrong. back to Kujos i go.... if they come in 24x2.35? grip is also, um, crap.
- the locking ring on the adjuster barrels of Avid levers is there for a reason.... the barrel kept working its way backwards until i realised what was happening.
- skateboarders shouldn't be allowed in skateparks..... damn buggers cause so many accidents cos they (the young, 12-14yr old ones in particular) skate in the runout for the quarters.... me and a mate were airing a stepup gap out of a quarter, and these retarted little skaters wouldn't watch where they were going, causing me to bail twice and scrape my knee once and causing my mate to bail a couple of times. even when we yelled "watch out, comin up", they kept skating round, doing theire HUGE 1ft drop down to the next level. one even had the audacity to tell ME to watch where i was going Mad shoulda smacked the little cunt. and yes, bikes of all kinds are allowed in this skatepark.
- if you think something is impossible to do on a bike (gap, trick, grind, whatever), some guy on a BMX will come up and do it without a second thought. cahns.

Sadly, Yes he was......

Avid mechs are f**k'n sick aren't they, glad your liking ya new toy. Might have to take the Kona up the local skate park one day soon.
