On DH trails, how do you guys stop huge ruts being formed by water running down the track, and how do you repair the damage that has been done by said water?

get some logs that are almost perpendicular to the trail, angled a little bit so water can flow to the side.

shovel them in... as for prevention, the logs or other diverting device is the only way but it kinda makes the trail weird and choppy

the trails up here use cinder blocks (or lattice blocks) buried sideways in the dirt (holes up) it really makes it choppy, but in the really bad areas, there's little choice.

For longer term trails, you can use this type of product. It prevents soil compaction and helps keep the topsoil in place. This stuff would probably also have the least impact on the feel of the trail.

There are many manufacturers of soil stabilization products, this type of material is pretty inexpensive (compared to other stuff)
